Reports To: Laboratory Supervisor/Manager
Location of Position: Skymint-HQ
The Microbiologist will be accountable for conducting tests and preparing documentation for Skymint Brands Internal Quality Laboratory. Under general supervision of the Lab Manager or supervisor, the Microbiologist will perform routine technical tasks in the lab and provides basic technical assistance in other areas to ensure throughput of samples through the Skymint Internal Quality Laboratory. The Microbiologist will be solely responsible for any micro-related data collection in the lab to ensure efficiency and compliance. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting daily operations of the lab and cultivation team as directed, preparing media, reagents and following standard operating procedures to provide data driven process decisions.
Microbiologist duties and Responsibilities
Characterization of bacterial and fungal isolates.
Utilize a variety of bioanalytical techniques, traditional culturing, and PCR techniques.
Interpret and document test results according to standard operating procedures.
Work with environmental monitoring of GMP areas and clean areas.
Participate in investigations of QA &manufacturing products for out of trend items.
Perform validation studies on new methods and assays in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements.
Recommend and implement in-process improvements for the laboratory and GMP.
Perform daily lab operations and data entry in an efficient and timely matter.
Monitor product quality to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.
Provide technical support and assistance to other lab personnel or internal staff.
Write technical reports or prepare graphs and charts to document experimental results.
Work with the Lab Manager to prepare and review SOPs and other controlled documentation
Operate computer software and systems required to process and document data (METRC, LIMS, Microsoft Excel)
Document instrumentation maintenance and recommended corrective action as directed.
Assist in lab operations which take precedence at any given time.
· Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry, laboratory science or a related field or;
· Associates degree in biology, chemistry, laboratory science or a related field and a minimum of two years laboratory experience; one year with a full-time microbiology focus.
· Familiarity with molecular techniques and instrumentation.
· Firm grasp on the fundamentals of microbiology.
· Experience in a regulated environment (ISO17025, GLP, or A2LA)
· Experience using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile environment.
· Ability to learn new techniques, multi-task, keep accurate records and comply with current company policies.
· Accurate completion of mandated proficiency test within 90 days of hire.
· Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Experience performing DNA/RNA extractions, PCR-based assays.
· Experience with qPCR Gene Expression assays.
· Strong statistical skills.
· Knowledge of allelic discrimination plotting, MMLM, Marker-trait Association.
